Peer Review

Today I saw a lot of projects, some finished more than others, but the best one was the Tiny Farm. The game was very well illustrated and coded. i think the group put in a lot of effort and thought into it and it really shows. It really is aimed at the kids with the simple maths questions and the colour palette. It is educational for the kids as well.

The second favourite would be the Alien twine game which has a nice story, options and illustrations. I think he picked a very good media because it really suits his skills and ability to write and make things interesting.

4 Me - Continued

When I was making my project, I faced some difficulties that I would like to solve. The video I filmed for presentation shows me them clearly. First of all, I was filming alone, so i had a lot of moving around to check the footage as my positions couldn't overlap with one another because then there would be no chance to edit it. Secondary, the details really matter for the video and any mistake, even tiny, is clearly visible. Another mistake I made was that some scenes should have been longer for the EkoStudio's transitions.
Even though its a small experiment, it showed me a lot of areas in which I could improve, so I am currently recording new, better footage and continuing to learn and explore.

4 Me - Story Diagram

I have been constantly thinking for 24 hours a day for my idea for this module, because I was encouraged by lecturer to do the best possible job. At first, I had 4 ideas, but I had problems with the story and creating the story, because further the choices, the less sense the story made, and on top of that, I was worried about the time constrain, as the projects were massive and I'm alone. So combining my abilities, knowledge and time, I decided to make a new story.

MD2 Final GDD

For my multimedia project, I plan to make an interactive video using EkoStudio, which is a program allowing for multiple choices throughout the movie, as well as multi-cam.
I have few ideas for my project and I hope I will settle on story this week.

final draft

This literature review is about interactive videos which had recently been used more and more often. While not much research has been done on the topic, there are some interesting ideas and developments which might interest anyone who would like to look into interactive videos.

Lin Ching Chen goes through the history of the development in the interactive technology. Then, he talks about three main areas - the present situation and the future of the Interactive video technology, as well as talks about characteristics of equipment and software and how this can be used in education. Related topics, such as intelligent teaching system, student control and material design are also research. This provides some insight into the history of the tool itself and how it is evolving, together with some additional informations.

Then, is the question „where can we use it?”, Wendy E. Mackay and Glorianna Davenport analysis multimedia tools and applications. The techniques used to control the video through user's actions had been implemented in four areas of multimedia. First, the creators of documentary movies order certain movie parts, the software designers create interactive, educational environment, and finally, the researchers use tools to help them analyse and record the data, as well as present it. But, interactive video in connection with computers and games, also creates a vey powerful tool in the instructional department. This proves that the tool is versitale and can be used in so many situations. Edward A. Fox also talks about technology of interactive video, which allows full digital manipulation of the video on a standard computer or laptop. The author believes that the digital video has a lot to offer - video-conferences, video-calling as well as games and simulations, instruction for realistic and synthetic videos.

Following previous question, next is „how can we use it?”. The authors M. Mills, J. Rosen, K. Dauber, Effelsberg W, E. Hoffert and R. Pea talk about The digital interactive video exploration and reflection (Diver) system and how it lets users create virtual pathways through existing video through a virtual camera and a comment box. The user can use webDiver to publish their work and create an active collaboration. This could be a tool with a lot of potential as it allows to create virtual pathways and share those with the community.

Vamsidhar Reddy Gaddam, Michael Riegler, Ragnhild Eg, Carsten Griwodz and Pål Halvorsen talks about panoramic interactive systems. One of the problems with this type of system is the overhead which happens when transferring a full-quality panorama to a client, as only a small amout of the actual footage is used to create the virtual view. And so, this type of system should be maximised in the terms of user experience and minimising in terms of bandwidth. So in this paper, they introduce tiling - which allows different parts of panorama to be of different quality.

And finally, evaluation and critising. Michael J. Hannafin aims to evaluate existing researches in the technologies in connection with interactive videos, describe few important believes and problems related with the use of interactive video and to suggest a framework to use for researching interactive videos. Thomas C. Reevestook on the task to criticise the researches and evaluations used to asses how effective interactive videos are and proposes another, alternative ways to research, which will go beyond the standard analysis.

Seeing all this research, it is safe to say that interactive videos has a lot of potential and possibilities and the research is moving forward to find out even more benefits of it. Groups of people already started creating proper software, engines and system to support it even further.lia

Tiling in Interactive Panoramic Video: Approaches and Evaluation Vamsidhar Reddy Gaddam
Michael Riegler ; Ragnhild Eg ; Carsten Griwodz ; Pål Halvorsen

This article talks about panoramic interactive systems.

Interactive Video Technology in Education: Past, Present, and Future

Interactive video in connection with computers and games, create a vey powerful tool in the instructional department. In this article, the author goes through the history of the development in the interactive technology. Then, he talks about three main areas - the present situation and the future of the Interactive video technology, as well as talks about characteristics of equipment and software and how this can be used in education. What is Interactive Video? - Link to the website

This website talks how interactive videos are the new form of media, where a lot of important brands are using it to engage with customers. The interactive video lets the viewer interact with the content of the video through different means - clicking, scrolling, dragging, hovering and so on, similar to the way they would interact with web content. It then goes on to explain different types of interactive videos - Hotspots, 360 view, Quizzes, Branches and Data Inputs.

The coming revolution in interactive digital video
Edward A. Fox Link to article

This newspaper talks about technology of interactive video, which allows full digital manipulation of the video on a start computer or laptop. The author believes that the digital video has a lot to offer - video-conferences, video-calling as well as games and simulations, instruction for realistic and synthetic videos. The author also mentions the importance of developments in optical storage, as a lot of space is needed to store high-quality videos and images.

Empirical issues in the study of computer-assisted interactive video Michael J. Hannafin Link to article

This particular book focuses on Instructional interactive videos, as the author believes that they have a lot to offer in terms of education. Not many researches have been done in that area, though. But, there are few researches done on the interactive instructional videos. The aim of this article is to evaluate existing researches in the technologies in connection with interactive videos, describe few important believes and problems related with the use of interactive video and to suggest a framework to use for researching interactive videos.
